Audience members at The Quick Center for the Arts may be dancing in their seats tonight with the diverse sounds of music played by Cello. Cello, a quartet of female cellists formed in 1988, plays classical music intermingled with popular tunes. The cellists, Laura Bontrager, Sarah Hewitt, Maureen McDermott and Susannah Chapman, mix well-known sounds, such as Beatles' songs, into their classical fare to expose audiences to a wider range of music. Jazz, rock, ragtime and blues sounds also frequently work their way into their performances, exposing audiences to a wider musical display. They have played at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. Michael Hill, associate director of The Arts Center, said the women feel their purpose is to make their music exciting for the MTV generation, and have even given themselves the nickname "Seductive Strings." "Their whole purpose is to get young people, who haven't been exposed to classical music, excited about it," he said. The show starts at 8 p.m. in the Rigas Family Theater. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Students can obtain tickets through the rush policy for the show by requesting tickets from The Arts Center box office. Interested students should request tickets from The Arts Center box by contacting The Arts Center box office at 375-2494.
